Gorgon Project Award

    27/04/2009
Offshore Marine Services Australia is proud to announce the award of the marine services to Chevron’s Gorgon project.

Barrow Island This award reinforces OMS’s position as the leading marine provider to the oil & gas industry in Australia. The award covers the transportation of materials and equipment in support of the infrastructure development on Barrow Island. In addition OMS will provide cyclone moorings to accommodate all service vessels.

The Gorgon Project is being developed by the Australian subsidiaries of three leading international energy companies: Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell. Chevron is operator of the Project with a 50% interest, and ExxonMobil and Shell each hold 25%.

The Gorgon Project plans to develop the Greater Gorgon gas fields, located between 130km and 200km off the north-west coast of Western Australia. The Greater Gorgon gas fields contain resources of about 40 trillion cubic feet of gas, and represents Australia's largest-known gas resource. Development of this substantial asset will secure Australia's position as a leading gas producer and generate a new source of wealth for Western Australia and Australia.

    The project proposal includes:
    - Development of the Greater Gorgon gas fields involving subsea pipelines to Barrow Island
    - A gas processing facility on Barrow Island consisting of three, 5 million tonne per annum LNG trains
    - LNG shipping facilities to transport products to international markets

Offshore Marine Services in collaboration with its joint venture partners, Singapore company Ezion Holding Ltd and Hong Kong based PBC Towage will provide a variety of marine vessels to the project over the coming months and years. These vessels will include both deep and shallow water Tugs, 5000 – 10,000 ton Barges, Landing Craft (LCTs) and Crew Support Boats. It is envisaged the first of these vessels will be deployed on this project in Q3/2009.

The scope of work is staggering with huge amounts of materials, equipment and consumables being required for the initial development on Barrow Island. These estimates include 28,000 tons of sand and aggregate, 182,000 tons of temporary and permanent pre-fabricated buildings, 88,000 tons of construction equipment and plant, 146,000 tons of containers, 36,000 tons of food and water and a massive 21 million litres of fuel.

Ian Del Rosso, OMS General Manager credits OMS’s success in achieving this major award to three main reasons, the company’s management strength, OMS’s “can-do” attitude and the suitability of marine equipment offered. The OMS team in Perth has been working on the Gorgon contract submission since the beginning of 2008 and OMS’s success has been the result of a outstanding team effort.
